Jerome was a young inner-city boy attending the fourth grade at a local school. His mother was single, had other children and was without financial resources. Jerome was considered disruptive, mentally handicapped and without educational hope. His mother had hope. She took him to the S.O.S. Center of Milwaukee, maybe they could find an after school mentor who could at least get him past fourth grade. An old, tired and retired principal became his mentor. He offered Jerome a youthful vision, a loving heart, and a vision of educational hope. If only he could get him accepted into a special school with the time and energy to see his potential. Yes, the school would extend themselves as far as they could, but they required $1,000.00 minimum. They seemed without financial hope. But maybe, just maybe, this letter from a new foundation called The Star of Hope said they would listen.

The members of the Star of Hope Foundation did listen and supported Jerome and his mentor in that special school. Today Jerome is a junior in a parochial high school, paying his own tuition through grants, fund raising events by his mentor, and a part time job. Jerome has maintained acceptable grades, has developed social skills and is considering attending college to study engineering. He has a future filled with dreams but more importantly hope.

How can I make a difference in the life of one child? What are the benefits of membership in the Star of Hope Foundation? Whether you join us socially to work and plan, or just want to be informed, you will play a part in the future of the next Jerome.

“As a single parent, there have been many times over the years when meeting the tuition obligation has been difficult. I thank you for your wonderful gift. I only hope that one day I too will be able to help someone in the same way you have helped my daughter.”
